Meet Karen Morris
Founder, The Cleaning Crew
Karen grew up in Talent, Oregon, with a love for the green hills, great climate, and diverse community you only find in Southern Oregon. After high school she felt the pull of California’s Bay Area and moved to Santa Rosa to attend Santa Rosa Junior College. A few years of study (and a little fun) later, she came home.
Back in Southern Oregon, she found work in something that came naturally to her: cleaning houses. Word of her attention to detail, work ethic, and efficiency spread like wildfire, and by 1988 her schedule was overflowing. Six years later she was the mother of two beautiful daughters and, somewhat to her own surprise, the owner of a housecleaning business that supported all three of them.
A living wage for other families
It dawned on Karen that what she had built as a single mom, she could offer to other hard-working single moms: the chance to earn a living wage for their families. For the next two and a half years she cleaned homes herself and contracted work out to other single mothers and individuals.
She soon realized that to make the difference she wanted to make, she needed to finish her education. So she did, earning a degree in computer science with a focus in business from Southern Oregon University in 2003.
The Cleaning Crew takes shape
Diploma in hand, Karen found few local openings in her field. She turned to housecleaning again, this time with a bigger goal: a full-fledged cleaning company that could make a real difference for people working hard to support their families. She brought her education, a systematic and efficient cleaning method, and plenty of grit and discipline.
Alongside the essential cleaning skills, Karen taught her team the life skills that had carried her: living with a grateful spirit, creating abundance, budgeting with discipline, and moving forward intentionally, whatever life brings. Soon she had a handful of well-trained, fully on-the-books cleaners working with her. They were earning a living wage and could now support and enjoy their families. The Cleaning Crew was on its way.
Today
The Cleaning Crew has grown into more than Karen ever imagined. It is now Southern Oregon’s largest and most respected locally owned cleaning company, with a strong management team in place. Karen still directs the company’s vision and helps hire and train every new member of the crew and staff.
